Apple Halo Turnovers Taste Heavenly
Posted Apr 1st, 2015
Baseball is back this week and if there is anything more American than this county’s favorite pastime, it’s apple pie. But we put a twist on this traditional treat. I grabbed a can of Best Choice Apple Pie Filling & Topping and followed the recipe on the back to make an Apple Halo. Instead of creating one large halo ring, I turned my treats into individual turnovers. Simple directions make this delicious dessert. Serve hot and fresh with a side of ice cream to make it truly heavenly.
Maple Walnut Apple Turnovers – Apple Pie Filling & Topping
1 can (20 oz.) Best Choice Apple Pie Filling
¾ cup Best Choice Confectioner’s Sugar
2 Tbsp. Best Choice Maple – flavored Syrup
¼ cup chopped, Best Choice Toasted Walnuts
2 cans (8 oz each) Best Choice Refrigerated Crescent Rolls
1.Preheat oven to 350 degree. Grease 14-inch pizza pan. Unroll crescent dough and separate into 16 triangles. Arrange triangles in circle on prepared pizza pan with wide ends overlapping in the center and points toward the outside (there should be a 3” diameter circle in the center).
2.Spread walnuts in a single layer in a shallow baking pan. Bake at 350 degree F for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. Stir occasionally. Set aside.
3.Spoon apple pie filling evenly over dough to within 2-2 ½” of outside points of dough and ½” of center edge. Bring point of triangles up over filling and tuck under base at center. (Filling will not be completely covered.)
4.Bake 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to cooling rack; cool slightly, about 15 minutes.
5.Combine confectioner’s sugar with maple syrup in a small bowl Mix until smooth.
6.Drizzle over warm apple ring and sprinkle with toasted nuts. Serve warm. Great with a scoop of ice cream.
