There’s a Surprising Ingredient in this Apple Crisp Recipe

Now that fall is finally in full swing, we’re indulging in some of our favorite foods & flavors of the season like apples. Enter: Apple Crisp.

Our recipe uses an ingredient not always found in your traditional Apple Crisp. Enter: brown rice. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Apple Crisp

Best Choice Non-Stick cooking spray
2 cups Best Choice Instant Brown Rice, cooked
1 can (20oz) Best Choice apple pie filling
1 Tbsp. Best Choice lemon juice
1 cup Best Choice brown sugar, divided
½ tsp. Best Choice cinnamon
¼ tsp. Best Choice salt
¾ cup Best Choice flour
2 Tbsp. Best Choice tub margarine
¾ cup Best Choice pecans, chopped
Best Choice whipped topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a shallow baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Combine cooked brown rice, pie filling, lemon juice, ½ cup brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Pour into prepared dish. Mix flour and remaining brown sugar. Cut in margarine and add pecans. Sprinkle over rice/apple mixture. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve warm with whipped topping.

Makes 6 hearty servings.
