Best Choice is excited to introduce our October Save-A-Label Organization of the Month: West Central Missouri Community Action Agency! West Central serves nine counties, assisting 12,500+ individuals annually with housing assistance, weatherization, multi-family housing facilities, energy and utility assistance, in-home assistance to the elderly and disabled, early childhood Head Start programs, food pantries, farm-to school food programs, emergency assistance, and many other community-based services. In addition, this forward-thinking organization recently formed a Community Development Corporation, “New Growth”, to help stimulate rural economies through tourism, local entrepreneurship, and economic development.
West Central operates by the model, “It is the small things we each do every day that make a big difference.” One of those small things is the Save-A-Label program. Employees collect labels through a friendly competition, and utilize social media and posters to promote the program. Their small efforts have grown into a big impact.
“Through the project, our employees have the opportunity to show support for their hometown grocery stores by shopping locally, and then “give back” further to that community by turning “trash to cash.” Since starting to save labels in May, individuals from each of our units have participated, and to date we have saved nearly 4,000 labels.” -Debra Vickers, West Central Grant Research & Development Manager.
